Amazon's latest generation Kindle e-reader device is now available at Best Buy and Carphone Warehouse outlets in the UK.
The device, which has already become a major hit globally, has been the best selling item on Amazon's website for quite some time now. In the UK, this will be the first time that the device is available through retailers other than the Amazon UK website.
The Wi-Fi only version of the new Kindle is retailing at £111 while the 3G version, which uses Amazon's Whispernet technology, is available for £152. Customers are not required to get into a contract when they purchase the Kindle 3G.
Kindle's anti-reflective screen and its easy-to-navigate user interface has made the device a hit with consumers, allowing Amazon to capture a significant share of the e-reader market. The company also offers a massive online bookstore that lets users purchase Kindle editions of physical books directly from the device.
Gordon Willoughby, European Director of Kindle, said in a statement, “We are pleased to be working with The Carphone Warehouse and Best Buy to offer the Kindle devices in store.”
“The reach and appeal of both these first in class retailers combined with the excellent level of personalised service provided by its people gives customers a great new place to discover Kindle and Kindle 3G,” Willoughby added.
