There are contradictory reports about whether Apple has run out of iPad 2 tablets, following a record-breaking first weekend.
According to a report on Apple Bitch, the company was not only going to be replenishing iPad 2 supplies at some stores, but also opening the stores one hour early on Tuesday to allow eager customers to purchase the device as soon as possible.
The Apple Stores that would be opening early would receive extra shipments of the tablet device. The same website gave an update later that although many stores were opening early they had not received the extra deliveries.
This seems to have been confirmed by eye witnesses on Cult of Mac blog, who went to a Boston store which opened early on Tuesday, but were told they had no new ipads to sell.
Monday saw speculation and rumours suggesting that most Apple retail stores and third party outlets like Best Buy, Walmart and Target had run out of Apple iPad 2 units following overwhelming demand for the device.
Apple has not revealed actual sales figures but analysts estimated that the company shifted between 400,000 and 1 million iPad 2 devices over the weekend.
An Apple spokesperson said in a statement to The Loop, “Demand for the next generation iPad 2 has been amazing. We are working hard to get iPad 2 into the hands of every customer who wants one as quickly as possible.”
