Bioware's Mass Effect 2 wins Best Game Bafta

Bioware's Mass Effect 2 has scooped the 'Best Game of 2010' award at the BAFTA Video Games Awards.

While Mass Effect 2 won top honour with the judges, Call of Duty: Black Ops was named the 'Best Video Game by Public Vote', at the awards ceremony held at the Hilton Park Lane in London this week.

Heavy Rain, a detective thriller on the PS3, picked up three awards: in the 'Story', 'Original Music', and 'Technical Innovation' categories.

Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood landed the 'Best Action Game' award while God of War III received the 'Artistic Achievement' award, for its "heart-thumping shadowing missions."

The 'Best Multiplayer Game' award went to Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit and first person shooter Bad Company 2 was given the 'Best use of Audio' award.

Civilization V won in the 'Strategy' category, a second BAFTA for the Civ series.

NIntendo shone in the family category, naturally enough picking up the 'Best Family Game' award for Kinect Sports, while Super Mario Galaxy 2 won for 'Best Gameplay'. The original Super Mario Galaxy previously won the 'Best Game' award in 2009.

Amongst other winners were Cut the Rope in the 'Handheld' category and F1 2010 in 'Sports'.
