PS3 jailbreaker George Hotz is now in South America, with Sony suspecting that he is on the run from the law. GeoHot has since responded via a blog.
In a legal filing, Sony Computer Entertainment said they had "learned that Hotz had deliberately removed integral components of his impounded hard drives prior to delivering them...and that Hotz is now in South America."
GeoHot himself has refuted Sony's claims that he has fled the country, claiming that he is in fact on vacation in South America.
, Hotz said that he won't do anything to jeopardise his on-going lawsuit with Sony, in which the PS3 maker has claimed that Hotz violated the Digital Millennium Copyright Act by jailbreaking the console and distributing the technology to others.
“Factually, it's true I'm in South America, on a vacation I've had planned and paid for since November. I mean, it is Spring break; hacking isn't my life. Rest assured that not a dime of legal defense money would ever go toward something like this,” he said.
“I have been in contact with my lawyers almost every day; I would not let the case suffer. That said, I also won't let this ridiculous lawsuit run my life either. Then the fearmongerers win,” he added.
Hotz's lawyer has claimed that Sony is 'crying alligator tears' over the entire incident.
