Nintendo 3DS Struck By 'Black Screen Of Death'

The newly launched Nintendo 3DS hand-held console is suffering from a 'black screen of death', which causes the device to crash mid-game.

Early 3DS users have flooded online support forums like NeoGaf, AVForums, and DigitalSpy with complaints about the error, which is fixed once the users restart the device or format the SD card with the FAT 32 file system format.

The 'black screen of death' appears while playing certain games like Super Monkey Ball, Street Fighter IV 3D, Pilotwings, Ghost Recon, Lego Star Wars, and Mii or while running in-built applications that come pre-installed on the device.

Nintendo UK has acknowledged the existence of the error and has advised users to install the new firmware it has released.

“If anyone is experiencing any problems with their Nintendo 3DS console, we recommend that in the first instance they download and install the latest system update, now available online. If the problems still persist we recommend they contact their local Nintendo Customer Service centre to investigate the problem further,” a Nintendo spokesperson told Now Gamer.
