ViewSonic issues iPad challenge

ViewSonic Europe has announced a ‘Try for Free’ campaign, which gives customers the chance to try out its seven-inch tablet, the ViewPad 7 for a month and get a full refund - no questions asked - if it fails to satisfy.

Spookily, the deal popped up just days after the launch of Apple's iPad 2.

ViewSonic said it will even stump up the cost of the return postage and packaging (up to £10), so that no costs are incurred. Terms and conditions apply, naturally.

The £300 ViewPad 7 runs Android 2.2 and can be used as a phone as well as a proddable PC. It comes with Bluetooth, wireless, GPS as well as MP3 and video playback, as you might expect

James Coulson, European marketing manager, ViewSonic, said of the deal: "There are many people that have heard about the new tablet trend but for various reasons have not yet dived in. Working with Google, we want people to have a good first tablet experience, risk free. Customers taking up the offer can use our devices for 30 days free of charge in order to overcome any initial learning curves and really start to appreciate the potential of Android on a great device.

"The ViewPad 7 is a perfect start into the world of touch technology,” he burbled.
