Vodafone has started to take preorders for the HTC Desire S, the handset that's going to replace the popular HTC Desire and will come second in HTC's portfolio to the Incredible S.
The smartphone is available for free from £30 per month with 600 minutes, unlimited texts and 500MB data allowance on a two year contract.
Adding a fiver gets you 50 per cent extra minutes and data allowance plus 25MB a day of data in selected European countries. Whether it is actually better than the HTC Desire or the HTC Desire HD remains to be seen.
Back in February, the original HTC Desire could be had from Phones4u for £240 instore with a free £10 top up and a 4GB memory card. As we wrote back then, "the original HTC Desire is still a cracking deal; both smartphones have the same screen size and screen resolution. The system on chip on the Desire S is a newer one which should perform better and extend the phone's battery life."
The HTC Desire S will also face a number of forthcoming handsets that will be launched soon on Vodafone; models like the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play, Neo and Play, the Samsung Galaxy S II, the HTC Chacha, the Nokia E7 and the HTC Wildfire S.
