Sony Ericsson Xperia Play – now on sale

Mobile phone manufacturer Sony Ericsson ‘PlayStation’ Xperia Play mobile phone is now available to be purchased, from various networks and retailers with 60 games.

The Xperia Play is the world’s first PlayStation certified smartphone, with a fast processor and dedicated slide-out game controller which will be backed by leading game publishers with a number of top titles such as Assassins Creed, Need for Speed and The Sims.

The phone arrives with a 4-inch 480x853 FWVGA capacitive touch screen, whilst being powered by a 1Ghz CPU with an embedded Adreno graphics processor that’s capable of 60 frames per second. The mobile also has a 5.1 megapixel camera with flash and runs from The Android ‘Gingerbread’ 2.3, with just over five and a half hours of game play from a single charge.

SE’s Xperia Play unique gaming ability comes from the gaming controls, which vertically slides-out from the phone and in much the same way as many handsets have their Qwerty keyboard’s slide-out; such as the Xperia X10 Mini Pro. These controls are a digital D pad, with two analogue touch pads, two shoulder buttons and the four familiar PlayStation icons which provides the gaming functionality.

Sony Ericsson’s Xperia Play tips up with 60 games, which are exclusively downloadable for the handset from Gameloft, Electronics Arts, Glu Mobile and other studios.

These leading titles are Assassins Creed Altair’s Chronicles HD, Need for Speed, Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell, Dungeon Defenders Second Wave, Gun Bros, Galaxy on Fire 2, Guns ‘n’ Glory, Worms, Zenonia 2, Backstab and N.O.V.A.2.

There is also a range of PlayStation original games, such as Crash Bandicoot, Cool Boarders 2, Destruction Derby, Jumping Jack Flash, MediEvil and Syphon Filter.
