Riverbed Technology has announced its plans to expand its Whitewater cloud based storage offering with a host of new software and hardware partnerships.
The company's Whitewater platform is a data centre appliance that works with third-party data backup software to automatically store data on the cloud. The appliance facilitates the streamlined and secure exchange of data between the data centre and the cloud.
According to the company, it plans to bring additional data centre support to the platform, starting with support for additional data backup software EMC NetWorker, Quest vRanger, and CA ARCserve Backup. Whitewater will also supports Nirvanix's cloud storage system.
Previously, the Whitewater appliance offered support for Symantec's NetBackup and Backup Exec software, IBM's Tivoli, Amazon S3 and AT&T's Synaptic platform.
Riverbed Whitewater director of product marketing Eric Thacker informed V3 that the updated Whitewater platform will support around 85 per cent of backup software available in the market.
“People are excited about the cloud, but once they plan out folding it into their IT infrastructure, they see there are a number of challenges. We made Whitewater to be a drop-in solution for existing infrastructures,” Thacker said in a statement.
