Virgin Media To Sell Sony Ericsson Xperia Play

Virgin Media has become the sixth UK mobile operator to sell the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play handset from as little as £35.74 per month for Virgin Media customers with non VM customers paying just over £5 extra.

Available either on two years or 18 month contract (opens in new tab) (which are £5 more expensive across the range), the Xperia Play comes with up to 1500 minutes, unlimited texts and 1GB mobile internet allocation on the most expensive monthly contract (£45.96) although we suppose that the sweet spot is the 800 minutes one which costs only £30.64 with an initial outlay of £99.99 for the handset itself.

Virgin Media's tariff is mostly inline with what other mobile phone operators have disclosed until now. However, use third parties like and monthly prices quickly start to fall down especially if you ONLY want to get the phone rather than being tied down to an expensive contract.

T-Mobile (opens in new tab) - which provides the backend infrastructure to Virgin Media - does 100 minutes, 100 texts and unlimited data for a total cost of ownership of around £490, that's only £30 more than the SIM free cost of the phone with the added benefits of paying for it in instalments and mobile data allowance.
