HTC's new 7in rival to the iPad 2 tablet, the HTC Flyer, is to go on sale in the UK at a smidgen under £600.
The Carphone Warehouse is now taking pre-orders of the 7in tablet with 3G and Wi-Fi for £599.99, and promises to start shipping in early May.
The price is roughly in line with expectations. Back in February, we reported that Amazon was taking pre-orders on the device in Germany, priced at €669 - at today's exchange rates, just slightly less than six hundred quid.
At that price, it seems the Flyer will have its work cut out trying to tempt potential tablet buyers away from Apple's new 9.7in iPad 2 tablet. An iPad 2 with 32MB RAM, Wi-Fi and 3G comes in at just £579.
The Flyer is also £20 more expensive than the 3G version of the recently announced Motorola Xoom, which has a larger screen, higher spec and Android version 3.0 'Honeycomb'.
HTC confirmed at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona in February that the Flyer would run Android 2.4 - a souped-up version of the existing 'Gingerbread', rather than the new tablet-specific Honeycomb 3.0.
The device includes a 1024x600 multi-touch display, 1GB RAM, a 1.5GHz processor and 32GB storage, with an SD card slot to expand this by a further 32GB.
