Dell Investing $1 Billion In 2011 To Provide Cloud Services

Dell is planning to invest $1 billion to build 10 new data centers as a part of its long term goal of joining the cloud services bandwagon.

The money that Dell is going to pour in making these new cloud computing centres, is specially aimed at providing solutions, services and cloud based options which will enable businesses to adapt into the rapidly developing cloud computing market, the company claimed.

Steve Schuckenbrock, the President of Dell said in a statement, “Technology advances, delivery methods and the move to disruptive IT models like cloud are changing the fundamental way businesses operate”.

“With this transformational shift, businesses are gaining benefits in terms of speed to market and organizational and compute flexibility. Dell is mobilizing to help customers capture these benefits and … is making the power of the cloud accessible to more organizations and users,” Schuckenbrock added.

In yet another disclosure, Dell announced that it intends to open 12 new solution centers this year and then 10 more over the next one and a half year.

These recent moves by Dell is being scrutinised by industry watchers as the company implements a well thought out shift from its traditional PC business.
