We wrote yesterday about the price cuts that Nintendo was likely to apply to the Wii gaming console, and already we've received notice that the Black Wii Console with the Wii Remote Plus can be purchased from online retailer GAME for under £100, including delivery.
The Nintendo Wii had an original selling price of £165, which means that Wii buyers stand to save nearly 40 per cent on the SRP. Other retailers (opens in new tab) though, have yet to catch up with GAME. Amazon still sells the Nintendo Wii Console with Wii Sports and the Wii Remote Plus controller for £160.
GAME has also cut the price of the Xbox 360 250GB without any games to a mere £150, which incredibly is cheaper than buying the same product, pre-owned from the same company. The PS3 gaming console though, still retails for a rather high £200; twice the price of the Nintendo Wii.
To say that the Nintendo Wii is on its last legs would be an over-statement. If there's something that the console has proved, it's that raw power is no match against innovation, user experience and the sheer enjoyment of a good game.
Most mainstream smartphones probably now have more raw graphics processing power than the Nintendo Wii, which means that an update is due. And it would come at a very good time given that neither Microsoft or Sony are likely to release successors to their flagship consoles in the foreseeable future.
