Customers have had to wait for almost 10 months to see the white iPhone 4, which is said to be arriving on Big Red’s counter. Some reports have been suggesting that the launch of iPhone 4 on Verizon was not a 'true' launch, as it was already available on AT&T for several months.
The marketing strategy seems to have failed in this case, both for Apple and Verizon. With the thought that the iPhone 5 might be just around the corner, customers have kept their hands in their pockets and are waiting for the next version.
“We note that the Verizon iPhone launch has widely been perceived as a disappointment. But in some ways, we see the iPhone 5 as the true Verizon iPhone launch; the first time Verizon customers will have access to a new version of the iPhone. We believe that many Verizon customers made the decision to wait and purchase the iPhone 5 when it launches instead of buying the mid-cycle iPhone 4,” Piper Jaffrey analyst Gene Munster commented.
Apple’s Q2 earning report is expected next week and it could either disprove or confirm the talk of weak sales for the Verizon iPhone 4. The iPhone 5 would really make a splash with their sales if Apple decided to launch both AT&T and Verizon versions from day one.
