Taiwanese smartphone maker HTC is apparently planning to unleash a new Windows Phone 7 device powered with a 16 MP camera.
According to a leaked promotional video leaked by Pocket Now (opens in new tab), it will be the first smartphone to have such a high quality camera. Currently, Altek’s Leo smartphone offers the highest camera resolution with 14 MP.
Nokia, known for the quality of its phones’ camera, offers a 12MP camera in its flagship N8 device.
The highest camera resolution currently offered by HTC is 8 MP, which comes with high-end Android smartphones like the Desire HD. The leaked video shows a device that almost resembles the newly launched Desire S device.
Apart from the high resolution camera, the device will feature a dual-LED flash for low-lit environments. However, a high MP resolution does not guarantee that the device will be able to deliver great picture quality. Experts point out the device might give the same picture quality as delivered by the Altek phone.
Other smartphone specifications have not been leaked and the new WP7 device hasn't officially been named, but in the hyper-competitive smartphone market, the new device will likely be a player in the drive to offer consumers the best possible specs.
