Apple’s iPhone one of the most popular cameras on Flickr and continues to gain ground, a recent study has revealed.
The data released by Flickr shows that although the Nikon D90 still tops the list of the most popular cameras, the iPhone 4 has climbed rapidly to second place and could easily replace the D90 if current trends continue.
The report confirms the steady rise of taking photos with smartphones, a source of genuine concern among digital camera manufacturers.
While Apple’s iPhone 4, 3G and 3GS secured the top three slots in the list of most popular smartphones, it was only the iPhone 4 that made it into the top 5 most popular cameras overall. The third, fourth and fifth slots all went to Canon cameras.
However, as Macobserver points out, the data released by Flickr is qualitative, and shouldn't be taken as a rigorous study of people's photography habits.
Nevertheless, it can still be viewed as a remarkable success for Apple, especially when its rivals Google and Microsoft failed to place a single product in the list.
