Novell Extends Support For Commercial Linux Users

Leading Linux distributor Novell Inc has decided to extend the support it offers to SUSE Linux enterprise server (SLES) in a bid to improve its market share among commercial Linux users.

The company intends to offer global support for SLESs that run on IBM System z and has also released the Service Pack 4 for SLES 10. Novell believes that extended support will prove beneficial to corporate clients, especially those running data centers as it allows them to run workloads for a longer duration.

Doug Jarvis, the product marketing manager at Novell for Linux enterprise, told, (opens in new tab)“SUSE Linux Enterprise 10 SP4 primarily contains the latest fixes, patches and updates issued for the SUSE Linux Enterprise 10 platform, as well as support for a large set of the latest hardware”

The company is also offering a Long Term Service Pack Support that includes general coverage for seven years as well as an extended coverage package that protects customers for an additional three years.

Analyst believe that as Novell is looking to improve its market share in the commercial Linux market, and it is likely looking for innovative solutions to give it a competitive edge in the competition with Linux-rival Red Hat.
