Google has announced a sub-Saharan Africa android developer challenge where developers from the continent will compete with each other, thus eventually helping in bringing up new and innovative ideas and designs in the regional Android app market.
The event will comprise of a wide range of categories including entertainment, media, games, social networking amongst others. Winners in each category will receive an Android phone and $25,000 cash as prize.
Vanguard Hitech has reportedly got their hands in one of these copies from the company that reads: “Every day more than 300,000 Android devices are activated globally. A growing number of these mobile device activations are in markets across Africa, making local African mobile content more relevant and important than ever before”.
It further stated that in recognition to this contribution made by the region, the company took the decision of involving talented and creative developers in the sub-Saharan Africa where they can bring new innovative ideas into existence.
Miss Bridgette Sexton, the program Manager of Google Inc. said in a statement (opens in new tab), “We are continually impressed by the ingenuity and enthusiasm of this community (from the region) to solve real problems with technology”.
