Research in Motion has revealed the Facebook app for its PlayBook tablet PC device at the Blackberry World Conference.
The company beat Facebook in launching an app for the tablet device that exploits its 7-inch multi-touch display. RIM also offers the Facebook app for Blackberry while the social network makes apps for iOS and Android.
According to the company, the first version of the Facebook for PlayBook app will be optimised to work with the large screen of the tablet PC device, giving users access to all major Facebook functions. RIM has also integrated the app with the PlayBook Picture Library for easy upload options.
Users will also be able to view videos posted on their profile and their friends and will be able to interact with the Facebook news feed.
“Now with Facebook for BlackBerry PlayBook we can also offer customers highly engaging social experiences optimized for the PlayBook including the ability to share Facebook pictures and videos with friends and family on an HDTV,” said Tom Goguen, VP, Collaboration and Social Networking at Research In Motion, said in a statement to ZDNet.
