Samsung Wave S8500 Now Available From £10 Per Month

This is probably the best mobile phone deal of the first half of the year for those looking for a lightweight, affordable contract with plenty of data; Tesco is offering the Samsung Wave S8500 for only £10 on a two year contract.

For this price, you get 100 minutes, 5000 texts and 1GB worth of data but above all, for a total cost of ownership of £240, the deal includes a phone that's almost the same as the Samsung Galaxy S.

The S8500 however runs on Samsung's own BADA OS rather than on Android, has a 3.3-inch rather than a 4-inch screen and comes with 2GB onboard storage.

Considering what else it has to offer though, the Wave is probably the best phone you can get south of £250. It has a Samsung Hummingbird system on chip with a Cortex A8 CPU clocked at 1GHz (the same as the Galaxy S) and the PowerVR SGX 540 GPU.

On top of that you get 512MB RAM, Bluetooth 3.0, Wi-Fi, a five-megapixel camera with flash & HD recording capabilities, a Super AMOLED display (its successor, the Wave II didn't), WVGA resolution and weighs in at only 118g.

You will be hard pressed to find a better deal if you are a lightweight user. An alternative handset would be the Orange San Francisco although you would have to pay an upfront cost for the phone (£80), settle for a slower processor and a less capable camera.
