Carphone’s Founder Becomes UK’s First Digital Billionaire

According to a new report, the founder of Carphone Warehouse and TalkTalk, Charles Dunstone has turned out to be the first ever digital billionaire in UK.

The report also revealed a massive 66 percent rise in Dunstone’s wealth since last year, thus surpassing the magic figure of £1 billion. He will now feature in the top 100 of the Sunday Time’s Rich List, scheduled to the published in the coming weekend.

46 years old Dunstone started the Carphone Warehouse almost 22 years back in 1989 with £6,000 from his saving, which he very patiently and cautiously upgraded to be big enough to feature in the stock market till 2000.

He is currently the chairperson of TalkTalk, the telecom giant which carved out of Carphone last year. Dunstone however, retains a considerable amount of stocks in both the companies.

The Sunday Times Rich List 2011 for Digital and Online Millionaires will feature Dunstone at the top with an asset of over 1 billion GBP. He will be followed by Henry Engelhardt of Admiral, whose total wealth sums up at 648 billion GBP.

The 3rd, 4th and 5th positions have been be secured by David Ross (Carphone Warehouse and TalkTalk), Simon Nixon (moneysupermarket) and Douow Steyn (Comparethemarket.com) respectively.
