CA Technology revealed yesterday that it is going to unveil the online version of its ARCserve backup and recovery platform somewhere towards the end of 2011.
The company also revealed that the project, currently under development will be delivered when ready with the support from Microsoft’s Windows Azure cloud platform.
According to reports, the resulting software will be aimed at attracting particularly smaller businesses as well as branch office customers.
"This is very much targeted at the SMB market," Brian Wistisen, director of product management at CA, stated in an interview.
"It really allows a much more attractive model for them versus some of the more conventional kinds of backup solutions that they might be presented with," he added.
Wistisen also said that the software is particularly built keeping in mind the need of businesses comprising of 20 to 200 employees, and also that the product will target the mid-market.
However, the official price for the product has not been revealed by the company yet, and neither confirmed the release-date.
On being approached for comments, CA bosses simply stated that the cloud based subscription service will be unveiled during the second half of the year.
