Broadcaster Channel Five has made its on-demand video catch-up service available on Samsung televisions.
The Five on Demand is available for download from Samsung’s Smart TV App Store and will allow customers to access its entire catalogue of catch-up video offerings straight from their Samsung connected televisions.
The application joins the likes of Facebook, Twitter, Lovefilm, BBC iPlayer and YouTube apps that are available for download from the Smart TV App Store. Samsung claims that around three million apps have already been downloaded by users of its connected TVs.
The platform, which features a wide range of apps designed specially for TVs, is currently only available on seven models of Samsung TVs.
“With Smart TV, we’re delivering more entertainment choices so consumers can watch, chat and share content.” Andy Griffiths, Samsung UK’s VP of consumer electronics, said in a statement.
Although the initial demand for connected TVs was low, the market has started to gain momentum thanks to users’ demand for digital media content. Consumers want Smartphones, tablets and even TVs to be able to connect to the web and give them access to digital media including movies and other video content.
