Microsoft’s first major update to its Windows Phone 7 platform is expected to come with a new visual voicemail feature.
According to a post made from the unofficial Windows Phone 8 twitter account, the Windows Phone 7.5 Mango update will come with visual voicemail. “#Wp7 Mango includes visual voicemail,” the Tweet read.
The tweet did not expand more on the revelation. Microsoft plans to bring the Mango update to its underdog platform this fall, with a launch event scheduled for May 24th.
Some of the other features that are expected to come with Mango include multi-tasking and update Bing features that will allow users to perform visual search using the device’s camera and scan barcodes, QR codes and Microsoft Tags.
Further information leaked on the Windows Phone Dev Podcast indicates that the OS will come with Facebook Chat, Windows Live Messenger, AOL Instant Messaging, group messaging capabilities, Office 365, support for Wi-Fi hotspot and artist on lock screen.
Even though the platform has a long way to go before it catches up with iOS and Android, Microsoft’s plans to bring in new and refreshing seem to be on the right track. With the company partnering with Nokia, it will be interesting to see the power-combination of Nokia hardware and the Windows Phone 7 software.
