Canadian mobile phone manufacturer Research In Motion has unveiled the arrival date of their first tablet computer in the UK with the BlackBerry Playbook, as June 16th.
Research In Motion announced their tablet device back in September last year, with a 7-inch LCD WSVGA capacitive touch screen, capable of multi-touch whilst running a new BlackBerry Tablet OS capable of using Android apps.
It’s powered by a 1Ghz dual-core processor with 1GB of RAM, along with a rear 5 megapixel camera and a front 3MP variant with a microHDMI and microUSB port, WIFI and Bluetooth support.
Missing from the device is any cellular access, where the PlayBook can only use WIFI or other means on order to obtain a data connection.
RIM has noted that Dixons, Currys and PC World, will be carrying the device on June 16th along with Phones 4 U, Best Buy and Carphone Warehouse who have released pricing details.
Carphone Warehouse has listed the BlackBerry Playbook 16GB version at £399, the 32GB model at £479 and the 64GB device at £559.
One Mobile Ring caught up with Research In Motion at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona this year, where we captured on video our press briefing on the device – which can be seen here.
