Hewlett-Packard has claimed that its upcoming Touchpad tablet PC will be the best tablet on the market as soon as it is available.
HP is venturing into the tablet PC market with the launch of the webOS-based HP Touchpad sometime this year. HP got the webOS smartphone and tablet platform with its acquisition of Palm.
The early reviews of the Touchpad and webOS have been good, but the company has yet to announce a launch date and pricing for the European market.
Speaking during a conference in Cannes, Eric Cador, HP’s European head said that the Touchpad has the potential to be more than the number one tablet in the market.
“In the PC world, with fewer ways of differentiating HP’s products from our competitors, we became number one; in the tablet world we’re going to become better than number one. We call it number one plus,” said Cador, CNET reports.
The tablet PC market is currently dominated by Apple’s iPad but HP will have other platforms to compete with like Android Honeycomb, Blackberry and Windows 7.
Cador also said that the tablet’s app partners in the UK will be music streaming service provider Last.FM, Sky and the Guardian. He also said that when the device is launched, there will be thousands of apps to chose from.
