Apple users must surely be grateful to a group of smart guys called the Chronic Dev Team who have been supplying jailbreaking solutions, though they do seem to take their time before releasing a new jailbreaking tool.
They usually manage to crack an iOS or an iDevice within a few months of Apple launching them. A Dev Team member, p0sixninja recently announced that the team could make the iPad 2 jailbreak available within a few weeks, but given the team's record most users have added a couple of weeks to that time frame.
However, the Chronic Dev Team claim that the announcement is actually a promise they intend to keep, stating on their official blog:
"Josh (posixninja) has recently been quoted saying the iPad 2 jailbreak is coming in “weeks”, I know I have been very publicly abrasive and non-commital on giving any kind of timeframe or comment on this matter, but at the behest of Josh (in conjunction with his need for a swift kick to the ass for motivation) we’re ALL going to hold him to that!!!"
They are planning to make posixninja work day and night to complete the jailbreaking tool so as to respect the "deadline". The team has also suggested that they may have found "the missing puzzle pieces" that will allow them to crack the only Apple device currently immune to jailbreaking.
And the good news for users does not stop there. It is possible that the iPad 2 jailbreak will also be iOS 4.3.x compatible. Apple’s loss is the users’ gain.
