Apple’s App Store has strengthened its dominance in the mobile apps market, passing the 500,000 apps milestone.
An infograph put together by Chomp, 148apps and Chillingo, shows that the Apple App Store has more than 85,569 developers. It also reveals that free apps accounted for 37 percent of the total app count, with the average amount for a paid app being $3.64.
The most popular app category on the platform by downloads is games, which accounts for 15 percent, followed by books and entertainment apps.
Rovio will be pleased to know that its Angry Birds game is the most popular paid app of all time, hitting the number one spot on 275 days. Angry Birds is followed by The Moron Test and Moto Chaser.
It has also been estimated that the around 4.5 billion apps were sold on the App Store in 2010, raking in $6.8 billion in revenue. The company is expected to sell more than 15 million apps in 2011. In 2013, around 21.6 billion apps will be sold on the platform, resulting in a revenue of $29.5 billion.
Android has recently made big gains in terms of mobile app development, but the infographic clearly shows that Apple is in no danger of fading away.
