Sony Ericsson Xperia pro goes on sale

Joint Swedish-Japanese mobile phone manufacturing venture Sony Ericsson has opened up pre-ordering of the Qwerty keyboard based Xperia pro handset, for £349.99.

Sony Ericsson announced a trio of Android phones at Mobile World Congress this year; the Xperia ‘PlayStation’ Play, Xperia neo and this very mobile phone – the Xperia pro.

SE’s Xperia pro has a slide-out mid-range Qwerty keyboard, and the appearance of the mini pro’s bigger brother. There is a new feature under the guise of Type & Send, which eliminates the need to open a dedicated app for each type of message where the smart keyboard triggers predictive messaging – when opened up for use.

The Xperia pro arrives running Android 2.3 with a 3.7-inch 854x480 FWVGA capacitive touchscreen, with the same reality display and mobile BRAVIA engine as their Arc mobile phone. The handset comes with an 8.1 megapixel camera, which is backed by the Exmor R mobile sensor for better image capture in poor light, with a miniHDMI port for playback on a compatible screen.

Sony Ericsson’s own on-line store has the Xperia pro available to be pre-ordered, SIM free and unlocked for the princely sum of £349.99.

One Mobile Ring caught up with the Xperia pro and MWC in Barcelona this year, where we managed to capture a hands-on walkthrough in pictures of the device here.
