In a rather unpredicted move, US retail giant Walmart is offering the iPhone 4 at an astonishingly low price of $147 in its stores across the country.
The discount offer, which will remain valid till July 1, has drawn quite a few eye balls from the market as an offering like this is usually made only when there are assured words from a company about unveiling a newer version of the product in question.
Apple, on the other hand, is yet to make any announcement about unveiling the new version of the iPhone.
The device in the offering is the 16 GB variant of the iPhone 4 and it can be purchased from Walmart for $147 on a two year contract. The offering is valid for both AT&T and Verizon customers.
On being asked why the company was making such an out-of-the-box iPhone promotional offering, Tara Raddohl, a spokeswoman replied (opens in new tab) that it was a sample of the company consistently making discount-offer "on the broadest assortment of products."
"Wal-Mart is expanding that offering to additional stores in the coming weeks," and the discount will be valid in any iPhone selling retail stores in the country.
However, she also clarified that the offer was not available on the company’s websites.
