Chromebooks developed by Samsung and Acer are now available for pre-order from Amazon and BestBuy, Google has announced.
The search engine giant, at its I/O conference, had unveiled netbooks based on its Chrome OS from Samsung and Acer.
The Chrome OS is a browser based operating system that allows users to web centric computing experience.
“Nothing but the web: Samsung & Acer #Chromebooks now available for pre-order from @Amazon and @BestBuy in the US,” the company tweeted.
Samsung is offering Chromebooks in two versions, one 3G and the other Wi-Fi. The Samsung Chromebook Series 5 3G is available for $499.99 while the Samsung Chromebook Series 5 Wi-Fi is available for $399.99 on Amazon.
Retailer BestBuy is offering the two Samsung Chromebooks at the same price. Several of the devices on both Amazon and BestBuy are labelled as coming soon but the Samsung Series 5 3G is slated for a June 15 release.
Here in the UK, the Samsung Series 5 3G netbook is being offered by Amazon for £400 and will be released on August 1. Meanwhile, the Wi-Fi only version of the device, which is retailing for £350, will be released on July 1.
