Gran Tursimo gamer gets podium place at Le Mans

The next time your mum/wife/probation officer tells you to stop playing video games because they'll never get you anywhere in life, feel free to point them in the direction of one Lucas Ordoñez.

Just three years ago, according to GamePron, the racing fan got wind of a competition where players of PlayStation3 racing favourite Gran Tursimo could win the opportunity to take place in a real race with proper cars and everything.

Lucas grabbed himself a console and a copy of the game and set about practising like crazy. All of his hard work paid off and he soon found himself racing for real as part of a team at the Dubai 24 Hours.

It was there that he came to the notice of Nissan team scouts who signed him up for one of the most prestigious dates on the motor racing calendar, the Le Mans 24 Hour.

Amazingly, Ordoñez, along with his team-mates Franck Mailleux and Soheil Ayari managed to come second in their class winning a place on one of the most famous podiums on the planet.

"Three years ago I won an amazing prize but never in my wildest dreams did I think that it would take me all the way to the Le Mans podium," said Ordoñez. "I have been on the biggest adventure you could ever imagine."

Now if we could only find a way of turning our expertise in Little Big Planet into a real world activity we would be laughing.
