The agreement between Apple and Nuance which allows the iPhone manufacturer to integrate voice recognition features into iOS 5 is almost signed. But how will this new feature improve users’ lives?
Remember Star Trek, when the crew gave the computer voice commands to, say, prepare coffee? iOS 5 users could do just the same and ask the iPhone to set the room temperature or deliver the weather forecast for a region, all via voice commands.
Users, who are in a hurry, can request the iPhone to unlock the car and thus save precious seconds. The app can read emails for those on the go and send replies based on voice commands.
Credit cards could even become unnecessary thanks to the iWallet app being capable of recognising a user's voice. All users would need to do is state the amount of money they need to be paid, to whom and connect the iPhone to the iOS-based payment terminal at the cash register. The method should be safe because it recognises only the user’s voice - unless Alistair Mcgowan is around!
The cosmopolitan melting pots we live in will no longer be an issue for people who speak English as a second language. The app could translate any conversation from and into English in a split second.
Sounds too Sci-Fi? It is not, solutions already exist, and they only need to be perfected.
