Version 5.5.3 of the AirPort Utility contains references to the yet-to-be-released 4th Generation Time Capsules and 5th Generation AirPort Extremes, feeding speculation about an imminent software update, according to a new report.
The new version of the program, aimed at both Windows and Mac users, was unveiled by Apple on Tuesday.
The 5.5.3 of the AirPort utility brings along with it a patch for the bug that caused the company’s AirPort Express Base Station, Time Capsule as well as the AirPort Extreme Base Station software to crash during their initial set up, MacRumors (opens in new tab) (opens in new tab) (opens in new tab)reports.
However, the MacRumors report also claimed that a couple of its forum-members, Neek and Jonnyz, found references to the new generation Time Capsules and AirPort Extremes in the updates.
This new revelation by the MacRumors forum members has fueled rumors and speculation regarding Apple’s intentions to launch new versions of the Time Capsule and AirPort Extreme in the foreseeable future.
But many people believe we still have some time to wait before Apple finally unveils the new versions of these software packages, especially since these software update references were also present in the earlier versions of the firmware.
