HP TouchPad goes on sale

Popular high-street retailer Carphone Warehouse has opened up the pre-ordering of the HP tablet TouchPad device, with a delivery date of mid-July.

The HP TouchPad was launched earlier this year, along with two other new webOS based handsets in the flagship Pre3 mobile phone and smaller HP Veer.

HP’s new tablet is built from the company’s history of computer devices, with the acquisition of Palm that delivers the operating system behind the TouchPad.

The webOS on the HP TouchPad still has a similar look to the past Palm mobile phones in the Pre, Pre Plus and Pixi devices; with a fast multitasking OS that effortlessly displays multiple running application with the ability to switch between over 200 apps running at once with no lag on the phone.

HP’s TouchPad arrives with a 9.7-inch 102x786 touch screen display, with 16 or 32GB of storage, with a dual-core 1.2Ghz processor, a 1.3 MP camera, whilst weighing in at 740grams and measuring only 13.7mm in thickness.

HP’s tablet also has a range of accessories; from a keyboard and stand that effectively turns the TouchPad into a laptop whilst the wireless TouchStone charging device is available too.

Carphone Warehouse's HP TouchPad offering is priced at £399 for the 16GB version, or £479 for the 32GB tablet.

One Mobile Ring caught up with HP at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona this year, where we published a hands-on walkthrough in pictures here of the tablet and caught on video a demonstration of the TouchPad here.
