Opera 11.50 Unleashed, Brings Speed Dial Extension, HTML 5 Compatibility

The all new Opera 11.50 has arrived, and it brings along with it Web apps via speed dial extensions, the company announced - with the hint of pride being quite obvious in its tone.

Web apps are specially designed websites based on HTML 5, JavaScript and CSS, and they enable developers to exploit the browser as an exclusive coding platform. Also, this feature allows users to run real-time weather updates, or even play games such as Angry Bird straight from the browser itself.

Some of the major changes introduced in the Opera 11.50 include support for Password Sync. in Opera Links, a renovated interface, broader HTML 5 compatibility, quicker SVG and CSS rendering for ensuring more efficient image loading etc.

“For the Opera 11.10 release, we've improved the visual display and UX of Speed Dial and added hooks for developers to control the way their site looks when rendered in a Speed Dial cell. In Opera 11.50, we're taking this a step further with Speed Dial extensions,” Opera stated in a blog post (opens in new tab).

However, what remains to be seen is whether or not these new features introduced by the company can help it out in increasing its stakes in the browser market.
