Google has released a new tool that will make it easier for small and medium sized businesses to create their own mobile websites.
In a blog post (opens in new tab), the company explained that the Google Sites mobile landing pages, also called Google Mobilize, will allow anyone to make a mobile landing in a short time for free and without any knowledge of coding.
Apart from the ability to create web pages optimised for smartphones and tablets, the tool will also provide people with templates for making landing pages, social interaction, e-commerce and lead generation.
Although traditional web pages are viewable on a smartphone, it is often difficult for smartphone users to navigate them, driving away potential customers.
“In a recent study, we found that 61% of users are unlikely to return to a mobile site that they had trouble accessing from their phone, and 40% go to a competitor’s. By the end of this year, more than half of all Americans will own a smartphone,” said Shiv Kumar, Mobile Specialist at Google.
The new tool comes just days after Google announced that it is adding an automatic mobile rendering feature to Google Sites, which will make webpages created using Sites to be compatible with smartphones with Android 2.2 or higher or iOS 3.0 or higher.
