Bitcoin Android app tips up

An Android app for carrying out Bitcoin transactions has been released. But since it's in its early stages, the developer warns potential users to stick to small transactions in case things go Pete Tong.

The app enables Bitcoin users to send or receive Bitcoins entirely from their Android phones. It recognises the Bitcoin URI format and allows users to scan and generate QR codes to share address, amount an so forth between devices.

The app, which appeared on Github is available from the Android Market. Author Brian Armstrong recommends installing the app while connected to WiFi as it downloads some data the first time you launch it.

There's a wiki page on using bitcoin android here and a technical details page here. The app is open source software released under the Apache V2 licence.
