Microsoft has rolled out the Windows Thin PC client for its Software Assurance customers, available for download from its Volume Licensing website.
The Windows Thin PC (opens in new tab) client allows customers to use their old PCs as virtual desktop machines. The platform has been designed to reduce the cost of VDI at endpoint and provide users with an enterprise ready platform.
“As VDI deployments continue to grow, customers told us they needed an easy way to repurpose their existing PCs as thin clients, leading to the evolution of Windows Thin PC,” the company said.
The platform comes with an entire set of unique features including RemoteFX, which provides a local desktop experience and Write Filters, that bring an additional layer of security. The Thin PC client also comes with BitLocker and AppLocker features that make the devices ready for enterprise.
Microsoft said that users will be able to use some common malware protection tools for both desktop and virtual systems.
The company said that interested users can download (opens in new tab) a 90-day trial of the Windows Thin PC client while subscribers of MSDN and TechNet programs will be able to get a full copy of the platform as a part of their subscription.
