Online retail giant Amazon is expected to create more than 900 new jobs in the UK by opening its seventh distribution centre in the country.
The distribution warehouse, spread across a massive 700,000 square foot, will be located in Rugeley, Staffordshire. The company said that the warehouse will be put to operation by the end of September and will reach full employee strength by the end of next year.
This is the second distribution centre Amazon has announced in the UK this year. Back in January, the company had announced a distribution centre in Dunfermline that is spread across 1 million square foot and will be operational by the end of this year.
Amazon said that it was investing in expanding its distribution service to deal with the rise in demand of its Kindle eBook reader and the introduction of new product ranges.
“The centre at Rugeley will play an important role in fulfilling orders for customers in the UK, Europe and all over the world,” said Arthur Valdez, vice-president of operations at Amazon’s UK division.
“We have a busy Christmas coming up and look forward to assembling a team of talented people who will play their part in ensuring that customers receive the millions of items that will be ordered over the festive season,” he said.
