Social networking giant Facebook has released the Facebook for Every Phone app that brings the platform to people that don’t have a smartphone.
Facebook said in a blog post that the app is Java based and can be run on 2,500 different types of phone.
Apart from offering the key Facebook features like News Feed, Inbox, and Photos, the new app also allows users to upload photos and find Facebook friends using the phone’s contact list.
The new Facebook for Every Phone app can be downloaded from Facebook’s mobile website and from many third party independent app stores like GetJar, Appia and Mobile Weaver.
The company also announced that it had partnered with several carriers around the world to allow users to access the app for free, without incurring any data charges for 90 days.
“The Facebook for Every Phone app will be available globally on Java-enabled phones starting today, and we are working on making the app compatible with even more handsets in the future,” Facebook said.
“With one easy download of this app, get all of what Facebook has to offer on your mobile device so you can stay connected with your family and friends wherever you are,” the company added.
