Microsoft’s Xbox 360 was the best selling video game console in the United States in the month of June, the company has revealed.
Citing market data compiled by research firm NDP, Microsoft said that it had sold 507,000 Xbox 360 units in June, whilst the company had sold just 451,700 units in the same month a year ago.
While Sony chose to remain quiet on PlayStation 3 sales for the same month, Microsoft bragged that it had sold 48 per cent of all current generation consoles in the US since 2005.
Microsoft’s figures come as the video game software industry reported a 10 per cent drop in sales to $1.03 billion in the month of June. However, the figures did not include online downloads, NDP reported.
Sony’s exclusive PS3 title ‘inFamous 2’ was one the largest selling console games in June, Sony did reveal however.
"According to the latest NPD report, PlayStation continues to see growth in software with a strong demand for exclusive PlayStation 3 franchise titles," said Patrick Seybold, senior director of corporate communications at Sony Computer Entertainment America.
"The recently launched inFamous 2 was the #1 software SKU in June. In addition, momentum is accelerating with the upcoming fall releases of Resistance 3 and Uncharted 3 on the horizon,” he added.
