An AMD executive has claimed that the next generation Xbox 360 console will be capable of graphics as good as those in James Cameron’s Avatar.
In an interview with the Official Xbox Magazine (opens in new tab), AMD's director of ISV relationships Neal Robison informed that the rumored Xbox 720 console will come with vast improvements in graphics and artificial intelligence.
AMD had supplied the graphics hardware for XBox 360 but Robinson failed to confirm whether Microsoft was working with AMD for Xbox 720. The software giant is yet to announce the successor to Xbox 360, which, according to the company, has had its life span increased by Kinect.
Robinson informed that the console will be capable of delivering graphics similar to the ones in the Hollywood blockbuster Avatar, which gave rise to the 3D entertainment industry. The console will not only outperform existing consoles but will be more powerful than most high-end PCs.
The AMD executive also said that the console will come with better AI capabilities for non-playing characters (NPC) within games. This means that NPC within a game will have their own personality or character and won’t be designed around the ‘mob mentality’ concept, in which every NPC reacts the same way.
