Google Labs To Be Closed Down

Google Inc has decided to shut down Labs in order to streamline its range of services and prioritise development in the company.

According to tech website PC World, the internet search giant has decided to close its Labs feature to focus more on developing crucial products and services in the future.

"While we've learned a huge amount by launching very early prototypes in Labs, we believe that greater focus is crucial if we're to make the most of the extraordinary opportunities ahead," Bill Coughram, senior vice president for research and development at Google Incwrote in the blog post.

The shut down is a part of Google’s initiative to trim its line of services and prune off those which are unpopular or unsuccessful. Recently, in June, Google shut down its services Health and Power Meter.

According to the details available, there are currently 56 products at the experimental stage in Google Labs, some of which will be transferred to other products, Android-based products will be transferred to Android Market, and the rest may not see the light of the day when the feature shuts down. The date for closing Google Labs has not been decided by the company yet.

Labs is a feature that hosts early prototypes of products and makes them available to Google users while at the experimental stage to make them more suitable for use.
