Sandwich chain Subway has partnered with O2 to roll out location based discount voucher for its customers.
Under this scheme, O2 More ‘You are Here’ text message service, customers, whenever they are near a Subway joint, will receive an MMS message from O2 More, which contains the discount scheme and a QR code.
The QR code will have to be scanned by the staff before the customers can avail the discount that comes with the scheme.
This is the first time that a bar code scanning discount scheme has been combined with location based marketing services. The O2 More ‘You are Here’ service was launched last year with Starbucks partnering with it. However, the Starbucks survey did not include discount voucher schemes.
“Subway has a great attitude to mobile and partnering with such a recognisable brand that is devoted to contactless technology has allowed us the chance to offer this industry first in voucher redemption,” Tom Hosking, head of O2 More at O2 Media said.
