More than one million users purchased and downloaded the Mac OS X Lion on the first day of its launch, Apple has announced.
In a press release, the company announced that Mac OS X Lion was the fastest selling operating system in Apple’s history. Before this, Apple has never given the sales figures for any operating system.
Mac OS X Lion, which is available from the Mac App Store for $29.99, comes with 250 new features like support for Multi-Touch gestures, support for full screen apps, a new and improved Mail app, Mission Control feature to view all running apps and Launch Pad.
“Lion is off to a great start, user reviews and industry reaction have been fantastic,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing.
“Lion is a huge step forward, it’s not only packed with innovative features but it’s incredibly easy for users to update their Macs to the best OS we’ve ever made.” he added.
The Mac App Store, which offers hundreds of free apps for Mac, is available in 123 countries worldwide, something which has helped boost the download figures for Mac OS X Lion. The Mac App Store was available on Mac OX X Snow Leopard via update but comes built-in with Mac OS X Lion.
