The nominations for the Pwnie Awards this year have been announced, and hacker groups Anonymous and LulzSec are fighting for the top position.
According to Digital Trends, Pwnie Awards ceremony of the computer security industry is to be held in a week’s time and has shortlisted the finalists for the 'Epic 0wnage' award which include Anonymous, LulzSec and Stuxnet group of hackers.
The Pwnie Awards have been described on its website as a celebration of success and failures entitled to the community of security researchers. The awards were founded in the year 2007 by two people who now act as judges to the awards ceremony. The two awards handed out every year are ‘Most Epic FAIL’ and ‘Epic Pwnage’.
The panel of judges include expert security researchers Alexander Sotirov, HD Moore, Dave Aitel, Ralf-Philipp Weinmann, Halvar Flake, Dino Dai Zovi, Mark Dowd and Dave Goldsmith. This year the awards will be held at the BlackHat USA security conference on August 3 at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, California.
“0wnage, measured in owws, can be delivered in mass quantities to a single organization or distributed across the wider Internet population. The Epic 0wnage award goes to the hackers responsible for delivering the most damaging, widely publicized, or hilarious 0wnage," the organisers of the award ceremony have explained.
