Noon News: Smartphones Addictive Like Cigarettes? CIO Wary of Cloud Adoption, Groupon Buys Obtiva

Research released by industry regulator Ofcom provides an interesting and intriguing insight into the impact of mobile technology on our lives, and how ultra personal devices like smartphones are changing the very fabric of our society. The report, shows that over a quarter of adults and nearly half of teenagers have a smartphone, with nearly two thirds of them having acquired their smartphones in the last year alone.

Cloud adoption is increasing among businesses but CIOs are still hesitant about the technology after suffering initial setbacks, a survey has found. A study into cloud computing adoption by UK businesses was conducted by Vanson Bourne and was sponsored by business continuity services provider SunGard Availability Services.

Daily deals giant Groupon has moved to acquire Obtiva, a Ruby on Rails development based out of Chicago, in a bid to boost its engineering prowess. In a blog post, Groupon explained that Obtiva was the largest Ruby on Rails software development company in Chicago.
