Motorola announced on Friday that it has issued a system update for its Xoom tablet with the view of extending the device’s support to micro SD cards.
According to the company, users can either get their hands on the update via a manual download, or they can also opt for an over-the-air update which will be automatically pushed to the Verizon Motorola Xoom.
The installation won’t take more than 10-15 minutes whereas it would require merely 15.4 MB of free space.
The HTJ85 firmware update includes micro SD card compatibility, adaptive streaming support for movies, pixel-doubling screen scaling, and an enhanced version of Google Video movie-rental app, according to this system update instruction document.
The inclusion of micro SD card support will definitely play a crucial role in taking the device’s popularity to a new level. The feature can be exploited via a file manager which allows the user to view pictures, videos, music, as well as other files stored on the card. In addition to that, users can also write content to the card via a PC or Mac.
