A special report published by Taiwanese analyst firm, Digitimes Research, claims that Apple is going to sell around 40 million iPad and iPad 2 in 2011.
The document which is entitiled, "Expectations for the 2H 2011 tablet market", suggests that Apple will still monopolise the majority of tablet-format computers this year with a 61 per cent market share.
Overall the total number of tablets expected to be sold this year will reach 65.2 million. The report also highlights the fact that tablet shipments for the first half of this year will have more than quadrupled compared to the same period last year.
Apple iPad 2 shipments in the second half of 2011 will reach 25.5 million units, up 76 per cent compared to the first half of 2011 when 14.5 million iPad tablets were sold.
This is even faster than the non-iPad group whose sale for the second half of 2011 is expected to grow by 65 per cent compared to the first half of the year to 15.65 million units.
Digitimes Research also highlights the current dominance of the Android operating system and the Nvidia Tegra system on chip outside of Apple's iOS/A5 duo.
The fourth quarter of the year is likely to be pivotal to the future of a number of platforms like HP's WebOS and Blackberry's QNX OS before the release next year of Microsoft's Windows 8 OS.
